Traditional White

It’s Wedding Wednesday and this week we have a beautiful and traditional cascading bridal bouquet.

While anything goes as far as wedding colors these days, the color white has been the wedding standard since the late eighteenth century. White not only symbolizes purity and virginity, but it is thought to ward evil spirits.

This bouquet pays homage to tradition beautifully. It was designed in white roses, lilies and stock with little touches of sparkling rhinestones. It is overflowing with elegance.

Bridal Cascade

It’s Wedding Wednesday again!

This week we’re sharing a beautiful bridal bouquet designed as a traditional cascade of flowing flowers and foliage. Our designer used Casablanca lilies, cream roses, star of Bethlehem, lisianthus, miniature calla lilies, stock flower, and baby’s breath. Plumosa and fern were incorporated among the flowers and long blades of lily grass trailed through the bouquet, lengthening it, adding elegance.

Roses and Lilies

It’s another week of prom flowers on our Wedding Wednesday, which means another week of prom flowers worthy of being walked down the aisle.

White roses and pink hybrid lilies are tightly gathered into a beautiful prom clutch bouquet. It’s clean, simple and oozing elegance. These prom goers have such fantastic taste we can hardly wait to design their future wedding bouquets!

Opulent Bridal Clutch Bouquet

This bridal bouquet is so classically beautiful, we can’t believe it took us this long to blog about it! We created this lovely clutch bouquet for a bride with very particular taste and a generous budget a few years ago.

When we think of high-end wedding flowers, lilies, roses, orchids and stephanotis instantly come to mind and this bouquet has a generous gathering of all four of these floral riches. This week’s Wedding Wednesday bouquet is certainly opulent.

We choose the finest white Casablanca lilies, white Eskimo roses, and green cymbidium orchids for this bouquet and finished it with fragrant stephanotis with pearled centers for an extra bit of wedding romance.

Rich and Romantic Bridal Cascade

This week’s Wedding Wednesday flowers are a cascading bridal bouquet designed in rich romantic hues of reds, purples, and pinks. Its length gives it an extra bit of elegance that you don’t always achieve in a round bridal bouquet.

The bouquet is designed in red roses, purple lisianthus, lavender dahlias, stargazer lilies, pink miniature calla lilies, pink miniature carnations and feathery soft pink astilbe. The foliage used includes baker fern, plumosa and burgundy ti leaves. The rich color of the ti leaves adds an extra layer of depth to the color scheme and their smooth surface juxtaposed to the fluffier floral petals adds textural interest. The bouquet is finished with a bit of purple ribbon, the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, throughout the bouquet.

For the Love of Cats

We love our furry feline friends! They are wonderful companions without the over neediness of their canine counterparts. Our shop cats, Cat and Poly, make our work days a joy and remind us to play, stretch, relax, gaze out the window and enjoy the occasional catnap or two.

Gerbera daisies are non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Cats are the furry part of our families that make our houses homes. They tend to be curious, eager to take a nibble or two (or many many more) on that beautiful bouquet of flowers your beau just brought you, so it is important that when you’re enjoying your flowers and plants they can be enjoyed by your kitties too!

Carnations are toxic to dogs and cats,
but they make a lovely collar.

Roses are non-toxic to cats and dogs.
So how will you know if a particular plant or flower is potentially toxic? Thanks to the internet we can check these things out in a flash! We recommend starting with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center website where you can find a searchable list of both toxic and non-toxic plants for both cats and dogs. It’s best to know the scientific name as well as the common name of the plants or flowers when doing your pet homework, since sometimes multiple plants with different characteristics may share the same common name.

Coxcomb are non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Many plants that your cats may munch of will cause nothing worse than a little digestive upset, but some may cause more serious health issues. Some common flowers and plants that are toxic to both cats and dogs are:  aloe, amaryllis, azaleas, baby’s breath, begonias, bird of paradise, and tulips. Members of the Lilium genus, including asiatic, casablanca, Easter, and stargazer lilies, can cause serious kidney problems (and possibly even death) if ingested by cats.

So what is a pet friendly bouquet? A bouquet consisting of plants and flowers that are not considered to be toxic to pets (primarily cats and dogs) of course. Flowers such as roses, African daisies, orchids and most ferns and plants such as bromeliads, African violets and Christmas cactus are non-toxic (although any ingested plant material might occasionally cause mild upset) and would be suitable as to have in households with pets.

Here is a brief list of "pet friendly" flowers and plants courtesy of Dr. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, Vice President and Medical Director of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.

We love that in the floral industry everyone is our customer. People from all cultures, backgrounds and walks of life enjoy the beauty of flowers and incorporate them into their lives.

We’ve had the recent pleasure of working with more of our kin from the Indian community. Their culture is rich and beautiful and flowers charmingly represent the country’s unity in the form of diversity, liveliness and generosity.

A single flower or a bunch of flowers can gladden the mind and confer prosperity. In various Indian traditions flowers have been associated with the Creator, religion, worship and with innumerable myths and legends across history. Similarly, flowers have forever remained an integral part of everyday life and culture.

We embraced the beauty of India and the fun of the Bollywood movie scene in some of our recent floral designs. We strive to represent all cultural communities in our work and love the wonderful opportunities we are granted to share our designs with the world!

We adorned our lovely model with flowers for her hair and wrist. We choose colorful assorted blooms to represent the fun and levity associated with Bollywood films.

The brightly colored sari she’s wearing, as well as, the blue sari with strands of 14 karat gold spun through it that is draped over the small table, were both given to us by a customer who had traveled to India.

Her jewelry is authentic Indian jewelry, for sale in our stores, that was brought to us from India by the owner of one of our neighboring businesses when he traveled home to visit family.

We filled our pretty peacock pottery with stock flowers, liatris, spray roses, stargazer lilies, iris, tuberose and delphinium with a tail of peacock feathers. In Hindu mythology the peacock is a sacred bird, known as Mayura, and is associated with a number of gods and deities.

We look forward to continuing to work with our diverse community and learning more about the world’s cultures and their beauty.
